The late afternoon sun cast long shadows as Maya strolled through the park, her shoulders loose, her pace unhurried. The gentle breeze played with the ends of her scarf, a soft tickle against her neck. She inhaled deeply, savoring the scent of damp earth and blooming roses. Ahead, nestled on a park bench, was a discarded wallet, its leather worn but expensive-looking. She picked it up, a slight smile curving her lips.

Opening it revealed a thick wad of bills, more than she'd ever held in her hand before. A driver's license showed a name she didn't recognize. A flicker of indecision crossed her face, quickly replaced by a comfortable certainty. She'd always found doing the right thing was its own reward.

She’d call the number on the license first thing tomorrow. For now, she tucked the wallet into her bag and kept walking. The birdsong seemed particularly cheerful today.
